Are you prepared for your final appointment?

It is appointed for all men once to die, and after that the certain judgment.
    Hebrews 9:27 (AMP)

So we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love… This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment.
    1 John 4:16–17 (NIV)

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
    Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

    — Mother Teresa

    Two Judgements — One Saviour

    The Great White Throne

Then I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.
    Revelation 20:11–12 (BSB)

The Judge — The Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son.
    John 5:22 (NIV)

"He who sits upon the throne of judgment is the same who hung upon the cross of love."
    — Charles Spurgeon

The Attendees — Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?
    Genesis 18:25 (ESV)

"The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time."
    — Carl F. H. Henry

The Purpose — Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
    John 3:36 (NIV)

"There are only two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘Thy will be done.’"
    — C.S. Lewis

The Basis of Judgment — No creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
    Hebrews 4:13 (ESV)

The Outcome — He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
    2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)

"The Gospel is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread."
    — D.T. Niles

The Judgment Seat of Christ (Bema Seat)

We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (worthless things).
    2 Corinthians 5:10 (NIV)

The Judge — There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
    Romans 8:1 (NIV)

The Attendees — Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.
    Revelation 22:12 (NIV)

    The Purpose —
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved.
    1 Corinthians 3:12–15 (NIV)

"Grace is not opposed to effort; it is opposed to earning."
    — Dallas Willard

    Outcome —

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
    James 1:12 (NLT)

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
    2 Timothy 4:7–8 (NIV)

They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
    Revelation 4:10–11 (NIV)

Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Master.
    Matthew 25:21 (ESV)

Well Done - Ending the Year with Purpose // Generosity - Open Hands, Open Heaven // Ps Sean Stanton

ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH THE YEAR FAITH-FULL OR FEAR-FULL?

    OPEN HANDS, OPEN HEAVEN

John 6:1–13 (NIV) Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd of people followed Him because they saw the signs He had performed by healing the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with His disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Festival was near.

5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for He already had in mind what He was going to do.

7 Philip answered Him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8 Another of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

12 When they had all had enough to eat, He said to His disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

    FAITH-FULL — NOT FEAR-FULL

The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped. Proverbs 11:24–25 (MSG)

✓ THE WORLD OF THE STINGY SHRINKS — their perspective narrows, their opportunities fade, and their hearts close.

✓ THE WORLD OF THE GENEROUS EXPANDS — their influence, relationships, joy, and impact grow wider.

Faith opens our hearts and hands; fear closes them.

God wants you to finish the year blessed, not stressed.

You cannot live a large life with a small heart. — UNKNOWN

A CALL TO FAITH, NOT FEAR

His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late.” Mark 6:35 (ESV)

What area of your life feels like a “desolate place” right now?

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for He already had in mind what He was going to do. John 6:5–6 (NIV)

    1. THE COMPASSION OF CHRIST

He saw a great crowd, and He had compassion on them and… Matthew 14:14 (ESV)

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion. Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

    2. THE DISCIPLES’ DILEMMA

He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for He already had in mind what He was going to do. John 6:5–6 (NIV)

Faith sees beyond what we hold in our hands because it trusts what is in God’s heart.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14 (NIV)

Faith doesn’t stop at believing God can — it confidently trusts that God will, because He is faithful.

    3. BRING WHAT YOU HAVE

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” John 6:8–9 (NIV)

For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

For if the intention and desire are there, the size of the gift doesn’t matter. Your gift is fully acceptable to God according to what you have, not what you don’t have. 2 Corinthians 8:12 (TPT)

God blesses what is placed in His hands, not what is hidden in ours.

    PREPARATION PROCEEDS PROVISION

Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Mark 6:39–40 (NIV)

“Order is heaven’s first law.” — ALEXANDER POPE

Prepare the way for the Lord. Isaiah 40:3 (NIV)

Stewardship is an act of faith, not just an act of management.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. Luke 16:10 (NIV)

    THANKSGIVING UNLOCKS BLESSING

Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. John 6:11 (NIV)

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalms 100:4–5 (NIV)

“A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles.” — CORRIE TEN BOOM

    STEWARD THE MIRACLE

When they had all had enough to eat, He said to His disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” John 6:12 (NIV)

“Preparation and stewardship are the guardians of blessing.” — UNKNOWN

    GOD’S GENEROSITY

“You cannot out-give God. Nobody ever has, nobody ever will.” — CHARLES STANLEY

This is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NLT)

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.

    2.  FINISHING IN FAITH REQUIRES FAITHFULNESS IN THE PROCESS

His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
    MATTHEW 25:23 (NIV)

For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.
    HEBREWS 6:10-12 (NLT)

For you know that when your faith is tested, it stirs up power within you to endure ALL things. And then as your endurance grows even stronger, it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.
    JAMES 1:3-4 (TPT)

    3.  FINISHING IN FAITH REQUIRES FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
    2 TIMOTHY 4:7 (NIV)

How enriched are they who find their strength in the Lord; within their hearts are the highways of holiness! Even when their paths wind through the dark valley of tears, they dig deep to find a pleasant pool where others find only pain.
    PSALM 84:5-6 (TPT)

Don’t envy evil men, but continue to reverence the Lord all the time, for surely you have a wonderful future ahead of you.  There is hope for you yet!
    PROVERBS 23:17-18 (LB)

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
    ISAIAH 40:29-31 (NIV)

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.
    ZECHARIAH 4:6 (NIV)

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
    2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 (NIV)

    4.  FINISHING IN FAITH MEANS FINISHING WITH GOD’S GRACE

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
    PHILIPPIANS 1:6 (NKJ)

I pray with great faith for you, because I’m fully convinced that the One who began this glorious work in you will faithfully continue the process of maturing you and will put his finishing touches to it until the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ!
    PHILIPPIANS 1:6 (TPT)

You Will Either Live Offended or Free; You Cannot Be Both!

WELL DONE — ENDING THE YEAR WITH PURPOSE

Strengthening What Matters Most — Offended or Free

We belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Conflict is inevitable, but combat is optional. Max Lucado

The disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Matthew 18:1 (NIV)

    The Scandal of Offence

It is impossible that no offences should come. Luke 17:1 (NKJV).

Skandalon: the trigger of a trap on which the bait is placed.

In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” Matthew 18:34–35 (NIV).

    Responding To Offence

What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? Matthew 18:12 (NIV)

    1.         Offence Mustn't Fester

If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. Matthew 18:15 (NIV)

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 (NIV)

    Conflict delayed is reconciliation denied.

    2.         Offence Needs Wisdom

If he won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again. Matthew 18:16 (MSG)

When hurt happens, we need others who will speak wisdom that our pain cannot see. Dallas Willard

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV)

    3.         Offence Is Contagious

If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. Matthew 18:17 (NIV).

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone… See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:14–15 (NIV).

    Offence has a voice

If they still refuse to listen… treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. Matthew 18:17 (NIV)

When offence speaks louder than God’s Word, it drowns out the very truth that can heal us.

We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency, and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behaviour. John Stott

Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict His word are completely in the dark. They will go from one place to another, weary and hungry. Isaiah 8:20–21 (NLT)

    Offence Needs Healing

Lord, how many times shall I forgive… Jesus answered… Matthew 18:21–22 (NIV)

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19 (NIV)

Reconciliation restores both peace with people and partnership with God.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! …For there the LORD has commanded the blessing. Psalm 133:1–3 (ESV)

Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21–22 (NIV).

To forgive is to set a prisoner free — and discover that the prisoner was you. Lewis Smedes

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Col 3:13 (NIV)

Jesus wants to transform your hurt into wholeness.

    A Childlike Spirit

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1–3 (NIV)

What if the greatest sign of maturity in the Kingdom isn’t how much we know, but how soft our hearts remain?

“It is possible that God says every morning, ‘Do it again’ to the sun; and every evening, ‘Do it again’ to the moon. … It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.” G.K. Chesterton
