We’d love to have you join our youth team.

Our youth leadership team are an incredible group of young people, aged 17 all the way through to not-quite-40. We spend most of our Friday nights together: bonding through teamwork, cooking up massive feeds for our students, worshipping God, and studying the bible.

We are so pleased that you are interested in joining our team.

How does leadership work?

  • We have several types of leaders at Young Rising. These leaders serve alongside our youth pastors to teach, support, and minister to our youth.

Youth leaders: our team of young adults who serve at Young Rising on a Friday night.

Senior leaders: a smaller team of youth leaders who have several years experience and look after specific areas of our youth ministry.

Emerging leaders: college-aged students who have been recognised for their leadership qualities and been invited to join our team.

Student leaders: a growing team of students who serve in different areas at youth. These young people know that they are already the leaders of their generation, and this youth ministry belongs to them!

  • We don’t expect our youth leaders to have sorted out every area of their faith, but we do expect you to be actively being formed into the image and likeness of God. This means being connected into a faith community: both through Sunday services and through connection with those who can disciple you in your faith - preferably through a fortnightly life group. We also expect that you will be living a life that aligns with the Christian faith - both inside and outside of the walls of the church - and regularly reading your bible and praying.

Research shows that reading the bible at least four days a week has a significant impact on your life - and we can’t expect our students to follow an example we aren’t setting!

    1. You’ll need to have a WWVP card or have applied for one. If you already have one, you can submit your card details here.
You can apply for a free (volunteer) check through Access Canberra. As well as completing the online application form, you will need to organise a time to go in to Access Canberra with your identity documents so they can process your application.

    2. Next you need to complete our internal Care & Protection Training. The video and link to the online test are available below. This takes around 15-20 minutes.

    3. Finally, complete our Youth Leadership Form

  • We know this isn’t the main reason why you are interested in becoming a youth leader, but it’s still worth mentioning. It’s not all about the eternal rewards, although those are significant. We get to see young people grow in their faith, give their lives to Jesus, and reach their friends on a weekly basis.

In addition to this, our youth leaders are consistently given opportunities to be trained in new skills. Whether it’s event management, pastoral care, group work, production, photography, barista, or food preparation and service, we equip you with life skills that will prepare you for further employment in the secular world as well as church.

And we get to do this in an incredibly supportive community of friends and co-leaders.

    Care & Protection Training

This training is mandatory for all leaders in our church, and especially for those working with children and youth. It will take you around 15-20 minutes to complete. Please follow the link to the training video and quiz below.

Care & Protection Training

Our church is firmly committed to creating safer spaces for our students and other vulnerable communities.

We have two levels of training designed to equip our leaders to create and maintain safe ministry environments. The first is our internal Care & Protection Training, which is mandatory for all leaders. We have included the training video and a link to the online test here for you.

The second is the Safer Churches course, run by the ACC and hosted by our church regularly. We will invite you to participate in this training and cover the cost for you when it next takes place.

After watching the Care & Protection Training video, please complete the online test here.
