Rich Today Gone Tomorrow // Let Your Faith Roar Pt. 10 // Ps Sean Stanton

How often do you reflect on your life in light of eternity?

LET YOUR FAITH ROAR

Faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead. James 2:17 (BSB).

Rich Today Gone Tomorrow

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:13–17 (NIV)

Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure. Matthew 6:19–21 (TPT)

Kingdom Key: Transform your temporary currency into eternal value.

Keep trusting in your riches and down you’ll go! But the lovers of God rise up like flowers in the spring.Proverbs 11:28 (TPT)

Calling, Calendars And Currency

God is not against planning, but He is against proud presumption. – Warren Wiersbe

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:13–14 (NIV)

1. The Complexity Of Life

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” James 4:13 (NIV)

2. The Fragility Of Life

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 (NIV)

3. The Pride Of Life

As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. James 4:16 (NIV)

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Proverbs 27:1 (NIV)

Pride is spiritual cancer: it eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense.― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” Luke 12:18–19 (NIV)

Boasting goes beyond pride; it’s a rebellion against divine authority.

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20–21 (NIV)

Kingdom Key: Transform your temporary currency into eternal value.

Treasures In Heaven

Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:15 (NIV)

4. Let God Shape Your Plans

This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9–10 (NIV)

The will of God comes from the heart of God. His will is the expression of His love, so I don’t have to be afraid! — Warren Wiersbe

The safest place to be is in the centre of God’s will. – Corrie ten Boom

5. Don’t Worship Wealth or Influence

Use your influence and material resources to serve, not dominate and control. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. 2 Cor 8:3–5 (NIV)

You can’t worship the true God while enslaved to the god of money! Matthew 6:24 (TPT)

6. Live Today in Light of Eternity

Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

When a Christian realises their citizenship is in heaven, they begin acting as a responsible citizen of earth. Theyinvest wisely in relationships because they know they’re eternal. Their conversations, goals and motives become pure and honest because they realise these will have a bearing on everlasting reward. …They give generously of time, money, and talent because they’re laying up treasure for eternity. They spread the good news of Christ because they long to fill heaven’s ranks with their friends and neighbours. All this serves the pilgrim well, not only in heaven, but on earth; for it serves everyone around them. Joni Eareckson — Heaven: Your Real Home.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17–19 (NIV)
