Faith Without Action Is Theory // Let Your Faith Roar Pt. 4 // Ps Sean Stanton

Christianity is not a theory or speculation but a life, not a philosophy of life, but a life and a living process. Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Faith by itself, if it does not result in action, is dead. James 2:17 (BSB).

LET YOUR FAITH ROAR

Faith Without Action Is Theory

The very moment you separate body and spirit, you end up with a corpse.  Separate faith and works and you get the same thing: a corpse...! James 2:26 (MSG)

Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (BSB)

The Death Of Faith

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. James 2:26 (BSB)

Use your heads!  Do you suppose for a minute that you can cut faith and works in two and not end up with a corpse on your hands? James 2:18 (MSG)

1. Faith is only words

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything… Isn’t obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? James 2:14, 16 (MSG)

2. Faith has no love

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that? James 2:15–16 (BSB)

3. Faith is passive

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. James 2:19 (NLT)

4. Faith has no corresponding action

How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? James 2:20 (NLT)

If anyone should think it worth his while to write my life… If he will give me credit for being a plodder, he will describe me justly. Anything beyond this will be too much. I can plod. I can persevere in any definite pursuit. To this, I owe everything. William Carey

Faith Must Grow

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Matthew 7:21 (BSB)

Faith without practice is a contradiction in terms, and love without obedience is an impossibility. William Barclay

Let your faith be less of a theory and more of a love affair. G. K. Chesterton

Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is in you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NLT)

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you. Luke 17:5–6 (NIV)

For the Gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish (springing from faith and leading to faith), just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17 (BSB)

Faith That Lives

Faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17 (NIV)

5. Rahad — The Harlot

Was not even Rahab the prostitute justified by her actions when she welcomed the spies and sent them off on another route? James 2:25 (BSB)

Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. Matthew 1:5–6 (NIV)

6. Abraham — The Friend of God

Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together. James 2:21–22 (NIV)

It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. Hebrews 11:17–19 (NLT)
