This term, for the first time, we are running a LOCK IN event at Young Rising. This is a 20-hour-long, extended youth event running from 6:30pm on Friday 28th August until 3:00pm on Saturday 29th August. This will be our major fundraiser for Summer Camp, and will also be an incredible event in its own right. Pastor Sophia Suleiman is joining us as Guest Speaker; we will have extended praise and worship time, ministry, as well as over-the-top exciting games, late night chats and a lot of opportunity for connection and deeper friendships.
THE ESSENTIAL DETAILS:
When: Fri 28 Aug, 6:30pm - Sat 29 Aug, 3pm
Who: Grades 5-12
Cost: $45 for the whole event or $25 for Friday evening only
Includes: Dinner, breakfast, lunch + midnight snacks
Pick-up: flexible early pick up available
Below we have additional information, such as the details and heart behind our fundraising efforts for Summer Camp, the packing list for LOCK IN, and some FAQs.
We have two different ways for you to be part of our LOCK IN event: registering your students to attend, or contributing to our fundraising efforts to subsidise the cost of Summer Camp.
It has been incredible to see the growth in our youth ministry over the last year. We’ve booked an extra accommodation block for camp as a result - we don’t want to have to turn anyone away. The extra costs for accommodation and transport mean that we are anticipating a noticeable increase in registration costs for Summer Camp this year.
Part of the goal of the LOCK IN is to help us raise money to subsidise some of these costs. Our leaders take this so seriously that they’ve come up with a list of slightly unhinged extra challenges and side quests if we reach our fundraising milestones.
You can register a student for LOCK IN here, or by clicking on the bright blue LOCK IN graphic below. You can contribute to our fundraising efforts here, or by clicking on the LOCK IN FUNDRAISER image below.

Our first side-quest involves a children’s dinosaur playhouse, and a leader spending a full hour in it for every $500 we raise. Yes, it is designed for children. Yes, our leaders are giant children (we love them). Yes, they are more than willing to be uncomfortable to help make camp more affordable for our students!
The best part is that the students get to choose which leader spends the next shift in double lock-in!

Our second side-quest is a special one just for Scotty.
Scott exemplifies being the hands (and feet) of Jesus, so we thought he might like something to help protect his hands. For every $5 we raise, Scott will wear some especially delightful oven mitts for a minute. He’s currently at 100 minutes, so things are looking promising.
There’s a total of 1,200 minutes at LOCK IN, and we have to factor in all that time Scott will spend praying for people (can’t let the mittens get in the way of ministry) so there’s a chance Scott might have a few extra minutes left at the end of the LOCK IN.
It only seems fair that if he can’t finish the total minutes on Friday and Saturday that the mitts make an additional appearance on Sunday…
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Males and females will be sleeping in different parts of the building, and leaders will be in adjoining but separate spaces.
Male students will be sleeping in the auditorium with sectioned off areas for age groups. Male leaders will be in the parents’ room, which has a connecting window.
Female students will be sleeping in the ministry hub, with the classrooms serving as sleeping spaces. Female leaders will be in their own classroom. -
Our leaders all have WWVP cards, Care and Protection Training, and most have additional training including a Safer Churches workshop, and mental health first aid training. We also have a team of first aid qualified leaders.
Leaders and students have separate bathroom spaces, and our policies include not having any leaders 1:1 with students.
We maintain careful ratios, with overnight events requiring a minimum of 1 leader for every 8 students. We expect to exceed this minimum, with roughly a 1:5 ratio for a high level of supervision and support for students. -
When you register, you will be asked if there is anyone your student would like to share a sleeping space with. Keep in mind, the sleeping spaces are large and there will be additional students outside of those your student has selected.
Their request won’t be granted if they ask to be in a sleeping space with a leader, a student of the opposite sex, or a student much older or younger than themselves. -

No. Obviously there’s going to be a bit of FOMO if they need to leave but there is no obligation at all to be there for the whole event.
There is the option to register for the Friday only or for the Friday and Saturday. You can also indicate on your registration form if your student will be picked up earlier than the 3:00pm finish time on Saturday. -
We have a packing list below for you.
Let us know if you have any other questions about what to bring or not to bring.
We would be especially grateful if everyone could bring a water bottle so we don’t need to provide plastic cups for the whole event. -
Summer Camp will be held in January of 2027. Due to the growth in our youth ministry over the last year, we’ve booked a second accommodation building at the same venue, but it was only available for two nights.
We will communicate more about how this will work in early September, but in the meantime, here are the dates:
Grades 5-8:
Wednesday 13 - Friday 15 January
Grades 9-12:
Tuesday 12 - Friday 15 January
